Licensing News!

According to a member of the AnimeOnDVD forum, UK DVD rental site Screen Select have listed the following titles for UK release:

801 TTS Airbats
Agent Aika vol 1
Blue Seed Perfect Collection
Cyber City Oedo 808 Collection
His & Her Circumstances vol 1
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Legend of Crystania - The Motion Picture
Marmalade Boy vol 1
Outlaw Star Collection 1
Tokyo Underground vol 1
Urusei Yatsura The Movie 2 - Beautiful Dreamer
Video Girl Ai

There don't appear to be any release dates for any of the above at present, and there are no details of who is releasing them, but it is likely that Outlaw Star and Jin-Roh will be from Beez and Blue Seed, Airbats and Legend of Crystania will be from ADV Films.  More news when we get it.

Yes, This is Another News Item About Studio Ghibli and Optimum Asia

Play.Com have now listed several Optimum Asia releases of Studio Ghibli films for next year, several of which have not previously been announced.  Here's a list:

27th February 2006

My Neighbour Totoro
Pom Poko
Laputa: Castle in the Sky

10th April 2006

My Neighbours the Yamadas
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke

1st May 2006

Only Yesterday
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso

This seems to confirm that the rights to Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service, previously released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, and Princess Mononoke, previously available from Miramax, have been bought up by Optimum.  It will also mean that the only major Ghibli works not to be confirmed for release in the UK are the TV movie Ocean Wave and the music video On Your Mark, here's hoping some of Miyazaki and Takahata's pre-Ghibli works are coming next!

Howl Film 2005 Review

Hayao Miyazaki's latest epic, Howl's Moving Castle, is due to get a review on next week's Film 2005.  Presenter Jonathan Ross is well known to be a fan of Miyazaki's works so it will be interesting to see what he will make of a film that has had mixed reviews so far.

More Ghibli for Optimum?

We know it's getting to be a bit of an oft repeated news item, but the forthcoming releases of The Cat Returns and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind carry the strongest evidence yet of Optimum's future Ghibli releases.  The DVDs both carry a 'Ghibli Collection' trailer reel which contains Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa Castle in the Sky, My Neighbour Totoro, Only Yesterday, Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Cat Returns and Howl's Moving Castle.  The inclusion of these trailers makes it look even more likely that they will be appearing from Optimum in the future, and it is also worth noting that My Neighbour Totoro looks like it has a new subtitle track which has been localised to the UK with terms such as 'Mum' instead of 'Mom'.  The original English subtitle track was a transcript of the English dub rather than a direct translation, so any new subtitle track will be great news for UK fans.  More info when we get it.
