News from the MCM London Expo After attending the Expo yesterday, there are several
pieces of news to report. Most of the news comes from Manga,
as they put on another great show again, giving fans a chance to meet
voice artist Cam Clarke and put on another Robotech presentation
along with several previews. Here is a list that Manga is
planning to release in 2006: Tetsujin 28 (aka Gigantor) - all 26 episodes of the latest update of this classic are due to hit the UK in February! Tokyo Underground - another 26 episode due for release in February, this will appeal to fans of anime such as X. Submarine 707 - both 45 minute OVAs of this anime from the creator of Blue Submarine No 6 are to be released (likely as a movie) in February. She: The Ultimate Weapon - no release date given but expect this to be a big release for Manga. Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex: 2nd GIG - ok, I know that we've all know about this for title for a while now, but the release date is 24th January 2006 and each volume is due to be released every two months thereon. The releases of volumes is likely to become more frequent however, in order to get them all released by the end of the year. Another series box set is very likely, as well as another free gift with the final volume, just like Manga has done with the first series. Appleseed - not the recent one, but a re-release of the original Appleseed that will be a budget release and will still retain the excellent commentary by Jonathan Clements that featured on the original release. Karas - the big one. Once you see this running there is no doubt that this will be the hit for Manga in 2006, possibly even bigger the 2nd GIG. It looks amazing and is due for release in May. Its too long to wait! Iron Kid - A Korean/Spanish co-production, this is a fun retro series that fans of old skool 60's sci-fi anime will love and as enough appeal in it's action and game-style animation to attract other fans too. Expect this towards the end of 2006 and it may even appear on TV also - Manga is talk to channels regarding this. Robotech: Shadow Chronicles - only a possibility at the moment as Manga have yet to acquire the rights due to poor sales of the current Robotech DVDs. If you want a UK release in 2006 you know what to do - get buying those Robotech DVDs!! It'll be worth it as an episode of Shadow Chronicles was shown at the Expo and, trust me, you want this to be released!! Astro Boy - again, nothing confirmed for definite on this one but if Manga do release this it will be the first colour series of Astro Boy from the 80's and will include all 51 episodes in a box set. As I said before nothing has been confirmed but expect it at the end of 2006 if it does get released. Other news from the Expo: Rapture TV attended the event at the Neo stand to promote the forthcoming showings of series Wolf's Rain and Full Metal Alchemist. No news was available if other anime was to be shown in future, but the showing of these two popular series is excellent news. If you are attending the event today, be sure to check
out the following: TERRATAG is at the event once again, where you can pick up some of his mega cool t-shirts reduced from £25 to just £10! Also check out the Neo stand where you can subscribe to get three issues for just £8 and you will get a free manga chucked in! Pop by the ADV stand for reduced DVDs and t-shirts and just next to it you can get your hair professionally styled with Manga Head! And next to that be certain to pay Sweatdrop a visit and you can get advice on drawing you own manga. And, of course, be sure to visit the anime screening area where you can see 2nd GIG, Samurai Champloo, Planetes, Peacemaker, and Burst Angel. Source: MCM London Expo |
Manga Entertainment at the MCM London Expo Manga have released their screening schedule for the upcoming MCM London Expo, and it makes interesting reading. Two as yet unannounced anime titles get a mention - the classic first colour episode of Astroboy and the gothic OVA series Karas - which strongly suggests that they are due for a release from Manga in 2006. Here's the full schedule: Saturday 29th Oct: Source: Manga Entertainment |
Anime on Channel 4!!! Eagle-eyed forum member mcarocks2003 over at AnimeOnDVD has spotted that Channel 4 are going to show the anime film Metropolis this Sunday at 5.10am! TV listings differ over whether the showing will be subtitled or dubbed, but Channel 4's website lists it as being a subtitled showing which is certainly unusual for UK terrestrial anime screening. People have been speculating over whether this will be a return for anime to Channel 4, who showed the likes of 3x3 Eyes, Fist of the North Star and Battle Angel Alita in the early hours of the morning back in the mid-nineties. It is rare nowadays to see a non-Pokémon anime on terrestrial TV so make sure you watch it - maybe above average viewing figures will make someone take notice... Source: AnimeOnDVD |
