Manga hits mobiles in Japan

Following the introduction of manga on the Sony PSP, a recent BBC article has reported that manga novels are now available for download onto mobile phones in Japan.

Although we are unlikely to see mobile manga anytime soon in the UK, we are likely to see an increase in e-books (downloadable novels for mobiles) which could in turn lead to mobile manga hitting UK mobiles.  The technology would also inevitably lead to downloadable free previews of manga onto you mobile, which would be more then welcome.

In the meantime you can buy it the old-fashioned way at your local Waterstones

Karas Press Release

Manga Entertainment have really put a lot of effort into the release of their next major series, and it must be said that early signs look good.  Karas The Prophecy certainly looks to be a cut above the norm and with a dub that features known actors like Matthew Lillard, Jay Hernandez and Piper Perabo, Manga are really pushing the boat out, and best of all we get it a day before the US!  The film certainly sounds like an interesting proposition, check out Manga's Press Release to find out more.

Wallace & Gromit Bag Oscar

Any vague hopes anime fans held for Hayao Miyazaki to emulate the success of Spirited Away with his latest feature were dashed last night as a plasticine pals Wallace & Gromit picked up the Best Animated Feature Oscar.  Despite the quality of his film Howl's Moving Castle, Miyazaki was never really likely to usurp the admittedly excellent Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, allowing Bristol based studio Aardman Animations to add another award to their already groaning cabinet.  Ironically Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli is soon to host an exhibition of Aardman's works at its Tokyo museum, so let's hope the rivalry is friendly!

Ghost in the Shell 2 Enjoys Strong Sales!

It's great to see an anime title shift some units, and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence has done just that, hitting number 12 in the UK DVD charts in its week of release!  It still has some way to go until it matches the success of the original film, but this is still a great sign that anime is starting to return to popularity.
