Amecon News!

Quite a bit of stuff was announced at Amecon at the weekend, so here's a summary:

New Anime Channel to launch - Following on from the successful launch of the Anime Network, it came to light that a new anime channel - Anime Central - is due to launch in the UK!  The channel will show anime from 9pm to 6am daily and has a pretty impressive lineup of shows - so far Bleach, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Seed, .hack://SIGN, Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin, Escaflowne, Fullmetal Alchemist, Scryed, Planetes and Transformers Takara will fill the schedule!  The channel launches on the 10th September on Sky, at the moment no channel number is available, but keep an eye on the official Anime Central website nearer the launch for more info.

Anime Network expands - Anime seems to be doing pretty well on TV, and ADV Films announced the expansion of their Anime Network block on Propeller TV to 7 days a week.  The Anime Network can currently be found on Sunday nights on Sky Channel 195 between 8pm and 10pm, but from September 8th it'll be shown nightly!  It will remain as a two-hour block but new episodes shown at the weekend and re-runs during the week.  New series like Paniponi Dash, Innocent Venus and Kurau Phantom Memory will be added to the weekend lineup from 8th September too.

Licence News - ADV Films were the most active announcement-wise, their new licenses included Ah! My Goddess series 2, Welcome to the NHK, Pumpkin Scissors, Tokyo Majin, Blade of the Phantom Master, Moonlight Mile, 5 Centimetres Per Second, Project Blue Earth and Gurren-Lagann.  Everyone else was pretty quiet, with Beez still tight-lipped because of ongoing negotiations, and Manga Entertainment just confirming that they would be releasing the first Naruto film and wanted to release the first volume of Bleach before the end of the year.  MVM cancelled their panel as it was due to take place at 9am (well before most of the fans would arrive) so the only news from them was that a special Ninja Scroll tin and a Samurai 7 box set would be coming out.  Revelation Films and Optimum Releasing were absent, but we have learned since that Optimum will be bringing Tales from Earthsea to DVD in November.

That was the main news, but that wasn't all the convention had to offer.  Keep your eyes on the main page over the coming weeks for our Amecon feature!

Berserk Clips!

MVM have released clips of the blood-soaked fantasy epic Berserk, which hits shelves on the 3rd September!  The adventures of a powerful swordsman called Guts (no, really), Berserk is an adult fantasy which is more Conan the Barbarian than Lord of the Rings.  It's extreme violence is sure to cause a stir, check out the following clips to see why, but be warned, they're not for kids:

New Anime Releases

A host of new anime releases have been listed on DVD retailer Play.Com's website!  Although there is no official confirmation of the releases Play are usually pretty accurate, and according to them there are some interesting new box set releases on their way in October.  Series apparently getting box set releases include Chrono Crusade, Azumanga Daioh, Robotech, Noein and Tokko, whilst ADV launch two new series - Red Garden and 009-1.  Several other series continue their run but it also looks like the release of Optimum Asia's fantasy epic Brave Story has slipped back to October.  Check out our Release Schedule for more details.
