AmeCon Announcements The largest UK anime convention has just been and gone and from it has come plenty of interesting news from ADV Films and MVM. Most important are the licenses, it has been confirmed that ADV will be releasing the following: Aquarian Age Whereas MVM will be bring us: Adventures of the Mini Goddesses MVM also confirmed the previously announced Love Hina OVAs, Full Metal Alchemist and Kodomo no Omocha, and the live action Gunslinger Girl. The majority of the announced releases will be coming our way in 2005, with the highly anticipated Chrono Crusade and Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum Edition coming in February. It seems that Neon Genesis Evangelion: Perfect Collection will be a cut price boxset release of the original DVDs and will contain none of the Director's Cut DVDs. It is due out around November. Other interesting news included the suggestion by ADV Films that they were looking to get Angelic Layer shown on terrestrial television; that TokyoPop were planning to bring some of their US anime titles to the UK; and that Naruto hasn't been licensed because it is the most expensive property on earth... Ride 'em Cowboy! French distributor Beez, who handle Bandai's releases in Europe, have announced that they will be releasing Cowboy Bebop in the UK from this November! The fan favourite series follows the exploits of futuristic bounty hunters Spike Spiegel, Jet Black and Faye Valentine (along with computer genius Ed and a corgi called Ein) as they struggle to build up some sorely needed cash. UK fans have been waiting for a long time for the series, the delay is rumoured to have been caused by another European distributor holding the UK rights. Also confirmed are a series of Escaflowne box sets starting in October, which look like they could be similar to the recent Gundam Wing ones. More when we hear about it... Source: AnimeOnDVD |

Kaneda's Bike Comes To Life! Yep, four companies in Japan have put their heads together and designed and built a fully working replica of Kaneda's bike from Akira!!! Probably the most desirable vehicle in movie history, the bike is as close as possible to its anime equivalent - coming with a snazzy red paint job and even including a full computer display panel. It is more than just a pretty face though, there are patents pending on the revolutionary steering and chain systems and it is a fully capable touring bike with top speeds expected to exceed 100mph. The manufacturers have yet to confirm if they will build them for general sale but considering their investment it is probably very likely. The new DVDs will be a mirror of the existing double VHS releases, with each DVD containing 6 episodes. The best news is that these are going to be budget DVDs, and will cost around a fiver each!! The first one is due out in September, so start saving the pennies... Source: Play.com |

Evangelion Announcements ADV Films have confirmed that they will make some announcements regarding the excellent Neon Genesis Evangelion at the forthcoming UK manga and anime convention Amecon. In particular the much debated issues of whether the UK will get a boxset release of Evangelion and whether Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum Edition will see an imminent UK release will apparently be addressed. We're hoping that ADV's impressive record with UK releases this year will grow to encompass these highly anticipated items, and we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear information from the convention. ADV's next boxset release is the Hellsing Complete Boxset, which will be coming our way on 20th September. Source: ADV
