Cosplay interviews! A weekly feature on Animetion where we talk to UK cosplayers on what motivates them, plus a cool gallery showcasing their cosplays.  Here we talk to cosplayer:

Name: Kaman Fong
(a.k.a. Kaka Extreme)

Q: When did you start cosplaying and how long for?

Well I started cosplaying in August 2007.  Amecon was my first con and time I had ever cosplayed lol (it was so bad haha).  So I have cosplayed for just over a year lol.

Q: What attracts you cosplay?

Well first it was the clothing in Gothic Lolita, because their just so frilly and cute lol.  As time went on I was introduced to anime and manga!  After watching and reading loads it attracted me to make a costume and wear it.  However I never did make any in my early years due to wondering... where and when will I ever wear it?

In the end I found out at cons and expos and thats what boosted me into making a costume!  I first thought it was a thing which would pass after one go but guess what?  I am now in love with it and thats the story of my cosplay life LOL!

Q:  What has been your favourite cosplay?

Well I have to say Kadaj from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, as it has been the hardest costume to make, plus he is my MOST loved character.  So I'm very proud of it and pleased that I almost got everything accurate lol

Q: Most memorable moment whilst cosplaying?

Well there is two.  One would be with my Samurai Warriors group at the MCM London May Expo 2008 in as we won the audience choice award! I was so happy!

Second was at Paris Japan Expo 2008, as I walked the giant catwalk and almost died from fear!  Yet at the same time I loved it to bits,  ha ha wish I could run on it again and again LOL

Q:  Have you had any cosplays go wrong/encountered problems whilst making cosplays?

I haven't encountered much really during the whole time of making costumes, however the most problem I have had was with Ginchiyo Techibana (from Samurai Warriors 2 - ed.), as most of the armour didn't turn out as I had expected.  Plus I had not time to redo it... so for now that is a failed project ha ha..  However I will try and improve in the future when I have the abilities lol

Q:  Have you ever regretted cosplaying?

haha - I have never regretted cosplaying!  Or then I wouldn't have met my wonderful friends and would have been a miserable girl biting away on my bar of chocolate LOL!

Though I do have times when I regret choosing a costume, but that is mainly from stress of making it ha ha.  So if you people hear me complaining about a costume and that I won't do it... ignore me LOL.

Q:  Have you ever done group cosplay? If so how did you find that experience?

Yes it was a Samurai Warriors group at MCM London Expo in May 2008.  It was a great experience as you are with people who you know, so you tend to be less nervous and scared!  You feel more yourself, which helps you get into character much easier, so its great to know least one person in your group lol.  It calms you down loads ha ha.

Q: Do you have a particular theme to your cosplays?

Well its mostly video game related right now, however it could change in the future!  I am hoping to do a few anime ones lol

Q:  What cosplays are you planning?

Well for now I am planning Xiao Qiao, Sun Shang Xang, Yue Ying and Zhen Ji (from Dynasty Warriors 6) Tyruu (NNN) and many more.

Q:  Do you have a dream cosplay?

Yes one of my dream costumes is Shiva from Final Fantasy XIII, she looks too cool and so dangerous with all the metal plates here and there!  Defo won't get killed if I was Shiva lol!

Q:  Do you have one piece of advice that you would give to cosplay virgins?

Right... children... if you know how to use a sewing machine or have one... USE IT!  Making everything by hand is killing trust me!!!

And don't worry too much!  If you worry too much then you would have doubts and when you have doubtts you wont dare to make your costumes... just give it a try.  If you believe its correct then do it!  You never know the results if you don't try!  GOOD LUCK!!!

Q:  Do you have an account with the website Cosplay island?

Yes I do have a account on Cosplay Island, known as Kaka Extreme.  I am also on cosplay.com and curecos also known as Kaka Extreme.
