The last series of Dragon Ball Z ended with the heroes forming an alliance with series one Vegeta, in preparation for the upcoming battle against their toughest enemy yet - Frieza.  The opening episodes will show the uneasy alliance taking on Frieza and discovering he has hidden power which takes his strength to a whole new level.  It looks like only one will be able to fight Frieza at that level - Goku.

After the last series focused less on Goku and instead on Krillin, Gohan and Vegeta, it is no surprise that Goku will grab more attention in this series.  What is more surprising is that a huge amount of hope is placed in Goku by the others, to the point where he treated as saviour.  Goku is now so strong that it is unlikely any of his fellow 'Z warriors' will match him in terms of strength.  All of the main characters now appear to have reached their peak and, unless a plot device changes that in a future series, it will likely remain everyone will

be waiting for Goku to save them from the bad guy.  Frieza is the bad guy in this case and likely the most evil adversary Goku has ever faced.  It is fitting that their battle should last an entire series then, with fists, powering-up and flashbacks abound.

Due to being one big fight, series 3 of Dragon Ball Z does not disappoint when it comes to action.  There are projectiles, fierce fighting and tragedies, yet it still finds time to expand on many of the characters - particularly Vegeta, Piccolo and Goku.  The story here is significant to saiyan lore and the tenacity of many of the characters, even the ones which are completely outclassed by the obscenely powerful aliens.  The flashbacks to the history of certain characters really creates a tense feeling and real thirst for action.  It keeps the balance between drama and action perfect throughout, leaving you hungry for the next episode and very likely to watch the whole series in a weekend.  It is so easy to become lost in the world even when you sit back and realise a lot of it silly and over-the-top, you will not think that when watching it.  Three series in and the quality and action are second to none, Dragon Ball Z still remains essential viewing and remains ones of the most entertaining anime ever released.
