The Nightmare of Fabrication is a beautifully
drawn full-colour manga from character designer Yoshitoshi ABe.
The short story is 18 pages long and can be found in both his Lain: An
Omnipresence in Wired and
#ab Rebuild An Omnipresence in Wired artbooks. It is a bonus side story to the
anime series that has not been released separately to our knowledge.
The manga is only available within the pages of the Lain: An Omnipresence in Wired and yoshitoshi ABe lain illustrations #ab rebuild an omnipresence in wired artbooks. The former book is a heavy hardback tome that will usually set you back a
whopping £50 or so on import. The book is superb and, for the most part, dual language. But the manga is sadly completely in Japanese in this book. The second artbook is a reissue of the first Omnipresence in Wired book with additional artwork and some new layouts, and it also includes the manga. The price is comparable to the first book on Japanese import and the manga is still in Japanese.
However, the second book also received a US release
which saw the manga finally translated officially into English.
The US edition of the
yoshitoshi ABe lain
illustrations #ab rebuild an omnipresence in wired artbook is
far cheaper to import than the Japanese version, setting you back around
£30 for the limited hardback edition or £20 for the paperback version
from import websites like
Amazon. Many specialist retailers such as
Planet will also stock it.
