I have to disagree with Rich on this one. Although the
animation is indeed fantastic and completely hand-drawn (unbelievably), this
does not make up for the slow moving and boring plot.
It starts of promisingly with a nuclear explosion (always good) but a lot of
film is just Fuse looking miserable and moping around. The ‘political intrigue’
is as about intriguing as the Conservative party and at no point did I care
about what was going on.
Admittedly I didn’t see the ending coming either and although it does make sense
of the film, I had become very bored at this point. Boring characters, boring
plot and just boring all round.
Considering how drawn out this film is I feel that it would have benefited from
being a short film (like Blood: The Last Vampire) as the plot could easily be
rounded up into about forty minutes. This at least would have made it faster
moving and given the film a sense of panic, which it sorely needed when you
consider the danger that the characters are in.
I agree with Rich on one thing – it is not an anime to watch after the pub. But
then I wouldn’t recommend it for before the pub either.
